A fully coupled hydrodynamic-DEM model for simulating debris dynamics and impact forces

چکیده

Many post-event field investigations suggest that dramatic flood hydrodynamics and impact of large floating objects contribute significantly to building damage during a tsunami event. However, the interactions between transient waves, debris, structures have neither been well explored nor understood, few modelling tools developed simulate these complex interactive processes, especially when multiple debris are involved. This paper introduces novel fully coupled system, based on high-performance 2D hydrodynamic model 3D discrete element method (DEM) model, for simulating movement carried along by highly convective flows directly quantifying induced forces structures. The proposed is applied reproduce series physical experiments, results agree with experimental measurements. It demonstrated newly system can capture interaction fluid, different shapes sizes structures, making it suitable real-world applications. provides new robust tool extreme hazards caused tsunamis or flash flooding assessing their risk, therefore has potential be useful planning designing disaster risk reduction schemes in those at-risk areas. • A transported waves. MSM implemented represent shapes. approach estimate reliably predicts occurring time magnitude peak forces.

Simulating phytoplankton community dynamics in Lake Constance with a coupled hydrodynamic-ecological model

Lake Constance is among the largest lakes in central Europe and represents the most important drinking water reservoir in southwestern Germany. About 4 million people depend on this lake for their drinking water supply, and considerable efforts have been made to protect its high water quality (STABEL 1998). In addition to a drinking water supply, the lake is the receiving water body of numerous...

Simulating cellular dynamics through a coupled transcription, translation, metabolic model

In order to predict cell behavior in response to changes in its surroundings or to modifications of its genetic code, the dynamics of a cell are modeled using equations of metabolism, transport, transcription and translation implemented in the Karyote software. Our methodology accounts for the organelles of eukaryotes and the specialized zones in prokaryotes by dividing the volume of the cell i...

A new model for simulating colloidal dynamics

We present a new hybrid lattice-Boltzmann and Langevin molecular dynamics scheme for simulating the dynamics of suspensions of spherical colloidal particles. The solvent is modelled on the level of the lattice-Boltzmann method whereas the molecular dynamics is done for the solute. The coupling between the two is implemented through a frictional force acting both on the solvent and on the solute...

Interparticle Forces for Dem by Md Simulations

One of the ingredients in Granular Dynamics (or DEM) is a description of interparticle forces. In this paper the effect of surface roughness on Hamaker and liquid bridge interactions is investigated. Three different models are used (excluded volume, stochastic roughness and explicit asperities). In general, the latter two give similar results. Roughness decreases interactions up to several orde...
